TIPS FOR GOOD KITCHEN DESIGN
- Observe how your family uses your current kitchen:
– Who cooks and who gets in the way?
– How many people are in the kitchen at different times of the day?
– How does your kitchen relate to the rest of the rooms in the house?
– Can the kitchen space be improved by removing walls or changing door locations?
– What is the first thing you would like to see when you enter the kitchen?
- Look at different styles of kitchen cabinetry in magazines, on the internet and on TV. Be prepared to think about different layouts and finishes that you may not have considered before.
- Be aware that cabinetry layout and finishes have a big influence on the cost of the kitchen.
- Cabinets should be made of moisture resistant board.
- Work out what sort of appliances (ovens, cook tops, sinks, etc) are you planning?
- Look at different types of flooring that are available as this will affect the kitchen cabinetry
- Outdoor kitchens can be designed to extend your living and entertaining space.
- With a limited budget be prepared to use less expensive door and bench finishes and NOT on the best cabinetry design – doors and benches can always be upgraded at a later date.
- Door and bench top finishes in custom cabinetry can be selected from the wide range of materials and colours available.
